History

History of GreenDrinks International

Every month people who value the environmental meet up for a beer at informal sessions known as GreenDrinks. It began in 1989 and has spread to 230 cities worldwide.

There's a lively mixture of people from NGOs, academia, government and business. Come along and you'll be made welcome. It's a great way of catching up with people you know and also for making new contacts. Everyone invites someone else along, so there’s always a different crowd, making GreenDrinks an organic, self-organising network.

These events are very simple and unstructured, but many people have found employment, made friends, developed new ideas, done deals and had moments of serendipity. It's a force for the good and we'd like to help it spread to other cities. Contact your local node to get the latest info about coming along.

History of GreenDrinks Savannah

Founded in the late summer/early fall of 2007 by Summer Teal Simpson, Sarah Gaines Barmeyer, Sara Barczak, Tommy Linstroth, John Van't Slot, Patty McIntosh, Chris Miller and Pete Krull.

Boasted 130 attendees at kick off on October 9, 2007!

Special Announcements at our one-year anniversary bash on October 14th, 2008

Our email list has grown from 800 to nearly 1300. We average more than 150 attendees at each event. GD Savannah has, on average, more actual attendees than the cities of Washington DC, Chicago, Long Beach and Atlanta, and more attendees per capita than cities the size of London, Seattle and New York. GreenDrinks International has almost doubled the number of cities -- there were 170 in 2007 and now they have 304. We've encouraged a groundswell of social networking around green issues. Many green businesses, politicians, gov't, media outlets and individuals are coming to us to get involved.

We’ve had a networking website emerge from our vision. Three GreenDrinks nearby (Brunswick, Beaufort and now Statesboro) have formed, inspired by our success. We’ve had a lot of press. We’re a top stop for local green petitions, movements and initiatives.

Thanks to Churchill's, Cha Bella and Moon River - and of course to all GreenDrinkers - for making this a very successful year for environmental networking!!
